Which sites do proxy providers block?
Banks, payment services and government websites are the sites proxy providers block most often; streaming, ticketing, gaming and email follow. Some open after an identity check, some only after the provider reviews your use case, and some never. Buying more traffic never lifts a block, so check the provider’s own list before you pay for a job aimed at one of these sites.
How many of the 10 providers that publish a list restrict each kind of target:
- Banks and payments: all 10, 4 outright
- Government: all 10, 5 outright
- Streaming: 6 of 10, 2 outright
- Ticketing: 5 of 10, 2 outright
- Gaming: 6 of 10, 2 outright
- Webmail: 4 of 10, 2 outright
- Mail ports: 4 of 10, 2 outright
"Outright" means blocked on at least one kind of their proxies with no published way to open it.

"Not on its list" means the provider's published list does not name that kind of site, not that the site works: every provider can refuse a target, and the site itself can block proxies. These are the lists we have read; a provider not in the table may restrict the same sites without saying so, so ask before you buy for one of them. "Mail ports" are the ports mail software uses to send or fetch mail (SMTP, IMAP); "Webmail" is mail you open in a browser, such as Outlook or Yahoo Mail.

Why providers block sites
A residential or mobile proxy sends your requests out through someone else’s home or phone connection, so the provider answers for what travels through it. Their own pages give the reasons. DataImpulse blocks government sites against identity and visa-application fraud, banking and payment sites against the testing of stolen cards, and email ports because one spam run puts a pool’s addresses on blocklists for weeks (its policy). Rayobyte names “fraud, unauthorized access, abuse”; IPRoyal blocks sites that “carry a high risk of legal or financial trouble”. Streaming, ticketing and gaming sites are on many lists too, and the providers that open them do so after an identity check.
What the block looks like
A blocked request fails at the provider, before it reaches the site: Rayobyte answers with a 451 status, Bright Data with an “Access denied” error naming the category, Geonode with 468 Target Forbidden for sites you block yourself. That is different from the site refusing you, which shows up as a 403, a 429 or a page asking you to prove you are human; the 403 guide tells the two apart.
Before you buy for one of these sites
- Find your target’s category in the table and read the provider’s own list, linked in each row.
- Where a site opens after an ID check or a review, do that before you buy: some providers ask for a company, not a person (Bright Data’s residential network is for registered companies only).
- Test the exact site inside the trial or the refund window, and keep the receipt.
A job that a provider will not carry costs the whole plan, whatever its price per GB.
