Overage: the rate after the included traffic runs out
Overage is the published charge for traffic used after a plan’s included allowance is exhausted. It changes the bill by turning a fixed package total into a variable total once usage crosses the allowance. A low checkout can become expensive when every additional GB carries a higher rate, while a published zero overage means only that the named plan explicitly adds no traffic charge. A missing overage field does not promise either outcome.
A plan with a calculable bill above the allowance
Evomi’s Core Residential Monthly plan includes 100 GB for $49.99 per month and publishes an overage rate of $0.49 for each additional GB. The plan record also states a 30-day billing period and no rollover on the provider’s page, so the included balance belongs to that billing window. At 120 GB of usage, the first 100 GB are covered by the package and the remaining 20 GB add $9.80. The resulting bill is $59.79, calculated from the published package total and the published extra-GB rate. This is a valid extension because the provider names what happens after the allowance. Without that rate, the same calculation would be speculation. A provider might block further traffic, require an upgrade, bill a different rate, or ask the buyer to purchase another package. None of those outcomes can be inferred from null. The comparison should stop at the largest priced quantity and say that additional usage is not published.
Overage can also change which tier is cheaper. A smaller package may cover a normal month but expose a spike to a high extra-GB charge. A larger package may cost more at checkout yet produce the lower total across a realistic usage range. Compare the full bills at several expected volumes rather than ranking only the base package.
Only four providers publish the field
In the current 710-plan snapshot, 4 of 47 providers publish overage_usd_per_gb on at least one row: Geonode, Evomi, ProxyMesh, and Anyip. The field is populated on 10 plan rows. The dataset keeps an explicit no-overage statement separate from missing data. Geonode’s unlimited residential plan publishes no bandwidth caps and no overages, which is recorded as a real zero. Before relying on an overage rate, confirm the allowance, billing window, units, and whether the charge applies automatically. Also check whether the provider rounds traffic, requires account credit, or moves the account to another tier. If those rules are not published, keep them unknown even when the per-GB overage itself is known.
