Proxy type

What this type is, the meter it is bought in, and how it differs from the other three.

Residential proxies: inventory access, rotation, and sticky sessions

A residential proxy is an offer that a provider sells under its residential category. In this dataset, the type preserves that vendor classification. It does not independently prove the owner of every address, the size or quality of a provider’s pool, or the likelihood that a target site will accept the traffic. Those would require network-origin or controlled performance evidence that the dataset does not contain. Proxy price data methodology and evidence

Residential products commonly expose provider-labeled residential inventory through rotating or sticky sessions. Rotation can select a different address for a request or after a period. A sticky session can retain one address for a published session length. Sticky access does not by itself create a purchased static address, and a null sticky-session limit means the duration is not published.

Infatica’s residential documentation shows the distinction within one product: it publishes rotation with each request, timed rotation, and sticky access as selectable modes. These are session controls inside the residential category, not separate proxy types. Infatica residential rotation documentation, retrieved 2026-07-25T15:57:28Z

What the residential label does not answer

The type alone does not establish:

  • how much traffic the purchase contains or how long the balance remains usable;
  • whether unused traffic carries forward;
  • whether traffic is pooled across plans, users, or proxy types;
  • whether concurrency is restricted, explicitly unrestricted, or not published;
  • which location, ISP, or session controls a particular plan includes.

It also does not make every residential offer traffic-priced. Some providers sell ports, concurrency, fixed addresses, flat access, configurable products, or quotes under the same type. Billing shape is a plan term, not the category definition.

How residential differs from the other three types

Compared type The useful boundary
ISP or static residential proxies ISP centers on a purchased address and its published retention behavior. Residential sticky access retains an address for a session and should not be treated as an ISP subscription unless the provider classifies it that way.
Datacenter proxy services Both categories can rotate or stay fixed. The boundary is the provider’s residential or datacenter product classification, not rotation alone.
Mobile proxy services Both can sell rotating traffic and sticky sessions. Mobile requires a provider’s mobile classification and may add cellular network, carrier, device, or mobile-location controls.

Keep definition separate from category economics

Use the residential type when the provider’s residential inventory and its published session controls are relevant to the workload. Then evaluate traffic life, pooling, concurrency, targeting, and the exact receipt. If any required value is not published, the category name does not fill the gap.

The residential proxy buying guide owns the checkout-backed category range, expiry examples, pooling analysis, concurrency ledger, disclosure counts, and buying sequence. This page stays focused on what residential means and where its boundary sits against ISP, datacenter, and mobile.
